About the museum:
The Bell Ringers Collection was created as a result of the International Bell Ringers' Festival, a tradition long held in the municipality of Matulji. Matulji is rich in carnival traditions and in customs where authenticity is still well-preserved. It is also the area with the largest number of traditional bell ringers' groups.
The Sparkle of the Bell Ringers Museum – Bell Ringers Museum Collection project includes bell ringers' equipment from groups in the area of the Matulji Municipality (a total of nine groups: the bell ringers of Rukavac, Zvoneća, Brgud, Mune, Žejane, Mučići, Vlahov Breg-Korensko, Bregi, and Frlanija). Each group has their own peculiarities regarding their equipment and rituals, all of which have been listed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
The collection includes materials related to the whole of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. Future plans for the collection include collecting bell ringers' masks from other parts of Croatia and other countries with similar traditions.
