About the museum:
On July 14, 1988, the well-known Croatian collector and literary theorist Dr Josip Kovačić (1935- ) donated his collection of the works of 33 Croatian women painters born in the 19th century. This unique collection contains 1045 numbered items (406 paintings, including 221 oils on canvas, and 1985 watercolours, 557 drawings, 77 prints and 5 sketching albums), or all told 1077 objects. The donation was exhibition in the Art Pavilion in Zagreb in 1988, and selected years of the individual painters are shown every year in galleries in Zagreb or elsewhere in the country. The donor, who manages the collection on behalf of the city, continues to supplement the donation with new works. In line with a conservation study and a museological programme, a working plan has been drawn up for the permanent presentation of the collection in the ground floor of the building at Radićeva 24, Zagreb. |
