About the museum:
The Ethnographic Museum, with holdings of about 5000 items, is housed in the renovated building of the Rupe Granary. Once the city’s strategic reserves of grain were kept in 15 large holes carved in the stone in the ground floor. The renovation has preserved the original appearance of the ground floor, and three of these wells or holes (“rupa” means hole) are open, architecturally heightened by a railing. The history of the building is presented in photographs. The permanent display shows the traditional culture of the Dubrovnik region – economic and material as well as intellectual (customs, costumes, music and dance, textiles and lace).
