Museum mission

The work of the museum is directed towards the fostering of interaction between past and present, as well as among local, national and international spaces. Works is done on the study and presentation of insufficiently known aspects of modern classics and their works; the museum exhibits talented young artists who live in or come from the city and its region, and creative encounters of this milieu with the works of important world artists are facilitated. The museum tries hard to be a model place for the presentation of art, a model and parameter of value in Dubrovnik and further afield. Precisely such aspirations led to its work with world important curators and artists: the international project and exhibition “Dubrovnik – here and elsewhere / Dubrovnik – ici et allieurs” (curated by Catherine David), the exhibition Perception (with the cooperation of French gallerist Jean de Breyne), the exhibition Brightness (works from the Thyssen Bornemisz collection of contemporary art), a retrospective of established artist Braco Dimitrijević, an exhibition of the Belgian Jan Fabre called Umbaculum for Dubrovnik... All these events contain a draft of the future work of the Museum of Modern Art Dubrovnik, an important point in the re-metropolisation of the city of Dubrovnik, its acquisition of the status of art centre that goes beyond the local borders.
