The museum was opened in 2005, on the occasion of the 240^th anniversary of the Forest Office in Krasno. It is the first forestry museum in Croatia. The Forest Office in Krasno is one of the three oldest forest offices in Croatia.

The museum's permanent exhibition comprises 300 items on the history of forestry in the region.

Apart from tools and accessories related to the cutting, tending and growing of trees and nursery maintenance visitors can also see transportation vehicles once used in forestry, old forest maps, photographs, documents, professional literature, and trophies of the wildlife of North Velebit.
