About the museum:
Grobnik Department of the Chakavian Council and the Local History Museum, as well as the Gallery of Modern Visual Arts, are situated in Grobnik Kaštel (Castle).
The castle was built in the shape of a triangle, surrounded by walls, fortified with towers and semi-towers, and additionally protected by another belt of ramparts. The fortifications were mostly built between the 15th and 17th centuries. St. Jelena's Chapel, with its preserved Renaissance portal, is situated on the ground floor of the southwest tower. A gothic well (15th c.) carved with the coats of arms of the Frankopan family and the princes of Krbava is located in the courtyard of the castle.
The permanent exhibition of the Museum holds ethnographic materials: various tools and artefacts used in crafts and traditional economy, kitchen utensils and equipment, furniture, and textile items that reflect the traditional lifestyle in the area of Grobnik.
The Gallery of Modern Art houses works of art made by both Croat and foreign artists who are mostly participants in the International Art Colony that has been taking place in the castle every year since 1996.
