About the museum:
The Museum of Međimurje, Čakovec, was founded as a general museum in 1954. From its very foundation it has worked in the Castle. The museum collects, studies, preserves and exhibits the movable cultural and historical heritage of Međimurje since prehistoric times. The permanent display presents museum and gallery material from the history and culture of Međimurje in the departments of archaeology, history, cultural history and ethnography, and the Art Gallery department including the Memorial Collection of Ladislav Kralj Međimurec. Contemporary museum work is conducted on an area of about 5,000 square metres of exhibition and working premises in the place of the Burg of Čakovec. As owner, the Museum of Međimurje takes care of the protection, restoration and revitalisation of two of the most important cultural history monuments in Međimurje – the Burg complex in Čakovec and the remains of the Paulist monastery in Šenkovec. The holdings of the museum have almost 20,000 archaeological, cultural history, historical, ethnographic and artistic objects collected in the area of Međimurje.
