About the museum:
The Petar Preradović Museum is located in the poet’s birth house in Grabovnica (municipality of Pitomača) that was built in the 18th century. In 1962, at the initiative of Luko Hrvatić, teacher at the Petar Preradović Elementary School in Pitomača, a campaign was started to mark the 150th anniversary of the poet’s birth. As part of this celebration, the building was restored from top to bottom and a museum display was organised in it. The museum is placed in two rooms. The museum provides a chronological presentation of the poet’s life and work (copies of MSS, photographs and documents from the National and University Library in Zagreb, the Croatian State Archives, Croatian Academy Archives, Croatian Academy Institute for Literary and Theatre Studies, the Bjelovar Municipal Museum and original items that were given to the museum by local people and the poet’s heirs). The selection of material, the chronology of the life and work of Preradović and the museum catalogue were the work of Vida Flaker and Dragutin Tadijanović, who at that time worked in the Institute for Literature and Theatre Studies, while the visual set up of the museum was worked out by the painter Edo Kovačević.
