About the museum:
In the village of Pitve, only 2 km from the municipal centre in Jelsa, lies the Pitve Memorial House. It is located in the premises of the old elementary school, in which the Viticulture Museum is also located. It was opened in 1981 at the initiative of former combatants from the National Liberation War, and was conceived as a memorial space for the fallen combatants of Pitve and Jelsa. The collection presents objects and photographs of fallen combatants, military equipment, weapons, pieces of Partisan uniforms, materiel, propaganda materials and books and parts of a Partisan naval ship. The collection is one of the few museum units dedicated to the Partisans’ war still in existence, and it has remained in the space and in the form in which it was created. But it is closed to the public, and is awaiting renovation. |
